Many of us spend long hours at work, but at what cost?

A recent study, based on data from over 7,300 participants, examined the impact of different work schedules on long-term health. Participants were followed from the age of 22 to 50. 

Key Points

It was determined that those with long, irregular or changing work schedules experienced many disadvantages compared to those with stable work schedules. These include:

  • Poorer sleep quality and duration

  • Lower physical and mental function

  • More physical health issues (ex. cardiovascular disease, diabetes)

  • More mental health issues (ex. depression)
